Small bust
unnamed (8).jpg

For my bust my plan was to make a guy with a buzz cut and a questioning face. First to start making the piece in constructed his shoulders. Then I made my way up to his face beginning with the nose. I then went in to the eyes by pressing into his face and making eye sockets. Then went over that with eyelids  scoring and slipping them on. Then of course hollowing it out. If I was to do this piece again I would spend more time on the lips, I really struggled with them, I should have tried bigger coils. Also I would have done a facing down face to express anger instead of a blank face.

Current artist inspired piece.

My aunt is a ceramic artist during her free time, we get pieces from her all the time. Recently we got a really cool mug that I really like. My plan was to make a piece somewhat like that. I began make my piece by centering my clay on the wheel. I then pushed in with my thumbs to begin the process of making the inside. Once that was done I came back to it to make the foot of the mug. As I was doing it, the mug fell off the wheel. If I was to do something different for this piece I would have spent more time centering it because once you get that it makes it so much simpler. Also I would have done a bowl instead because I have enough glasses at home.

Mask

My plan for this piece was to make a face that almost looked like it was getting shattered, so I wanted to go for a shocked facial expression on the piece. As I began I started by rolling a slab and then placing on the nose to the face. Then I carved out the eyes on the face and the mouth. After this I placed it on a mold just so it could hold a shape as it drys so I didn't have to worry about the shape falling apart. Then I sanded and painted in the black lines. I then went in and painted it trying to really separate the pieces with different colors. If I was to do this piece again I would have done more shattered lines as it would be able to add more detail into the piece and giving it more depth.

Alebrijes

For my alebrije I wanted to make a turtle because I remember when I went to my friends house it was my favorite animal when I was little.  To start I made a ball and then pressed it down to form the shape of a shell, I then carved on the scales to the shell and added the head, tail and the fins. If I was to do this again I would have made this piece bigger so that I could have more detail in the scales and so it would be easier to paint with detail.

Useful piece

For my useful piece I wanted to make a chips and salsa kind of plate that could also be used for other things like that. To start I tried something new and made a block and then carvewd out the areas that I wanted. I then went back and smoothed it out around the inside. If I was to do this again I would make the smaller area a little bigger and make it shorter sides and thinner sides, I think this would be more appealing to the eye.
